Municipality of Salamina, remaining consistent in the implementation of extroversion policies for the youth and for the environment awareness of society , implements as a Coordinating body the European program “EUnvironment – EUnvironmental emergency in simple words” funded by Erasmus+ for Youth from the European Union through the National Coordination Unit, INEDIVIM. It is a Strategic Partnership in the field of youth with a dynamic scheme of agencies from Greece, Cyprus, Portugal and Poland, with a total duration of 24 months.
Municipality of Salamina, as Coordinator of the program, invites all interested parties on 1st of March 2023 from 09.00 to 11.00 to the Inaugural Event for the project in the Hall “Dimitrios Bogris” of the City Hall, with the participation of all the partners of the project, as well as school units of the island.
The main objective of the project is to raise the awareness of young people on issues related to the environment, climate change and its effects on the local community, as well as policies for the protection of the environment and sustainable development, with the aim that the young people themselves act as communicants of these ideas but also to be able to “lead” society in a sustainable way of life. During the program all the partners will work around 5 main activities, more specifically:
- The creation of “Envictionary”, a dictionary of terms and concepts that will cover the entire range of project topics, the environmental crisis, sustainable development, policies and actions for the climate and environmental protection, in a friendly and accessible way for the young people.
- The Handbook – Training Guide for Workers in the Youth sector with interactive and innovative tools, based on non-formal learning, in the thematic areas of the project. The purpose of this is to give tools and methods to people working with young people on how to be able to understand complex concepts in a simpler and more tangible way, such as “green development”, “circular economy”, “sustainable development” and the “green cities”. This tool is expected to become a valuable guide and to enrich the knowledge and skills of both the people who work with young people, but also the young people of our island, as well as of the partner countries.
- The Online Courses – MOOC Courses on environmental terminology, on the innovative international e-learning software platform, MELO / Digital School. This platform is an internationally awarded and recognized distance learning (e-learning) platform of a Greek company, and is the result of years of research and development in the scientific field of distance learning (e-learning). As part of the project, a course will be created on this platform related to the concepts and terminologies of the project, giving the opportunity to young people as well as youth workers to attend asynchronously and remotely, in the context of their wider preparation and involvement with innovative digital tools and issues of environmental protection and sustainable development.
- The creation of Board Games and Comics using recyclable materials, in order to raise awareness, inform and motivate young people to get involved in actions, but also to take initiatives, for the protection of the environment and climate change.
- The design of the Environmental Application Game, an app where the user will be able to scan a QR code and through it be informed about basic issues, concepts, and elements related to climate change, environmental protection, and sustainable development.
By making use of innovative technological tools, the Municipality of Salamina aspires, together with the project partners, to raise awareness, inform and give the motivation and tools to young people to become “influencers” themselves, taking initiatives to inform and raise awareness of other young people in the protection of the environment. With our slogan of everyone’s shared responsibility to protect and create conditions of well-being for Europe’s young people, we aspire to show that the planet is part of us and, therefore, it is everyone’s responsibility to protect it and be part of the conservation of. A more sustainable way of life is the key message the program seeks to promote to young participants, as well as the values of active citizenship, community involvement, solidarity and tolerance.
As the Project Results will be accessible by anyone interested party, the project aims to make its mark in education by enabling young people, youth workers and the education community to benefit and make use of the guides, online interactive lessons, comics and games.
Through this program, as well as corresponding initiatives of the Municipality, the active participation of young people in society is strengthened and their extroversion is cultivated, as they come into contact with participants from other countries of the European Union.
