Acquaintance Meeting & Feedback of the Project Results: “EUnvironment – Environmental emergency in simple words”

Municipality of Salamina organized on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024 between 9:30 and 14:00 in the Hall “Dimitrios Bogris” theAcquaintance & Feedback Meeting of the Results of the Project “Eunvironment – Environmental Emergency in simple words” funded by the Erasmus Plus program for Youth. The meeting was attended, among others, by more than 200 young people from the secondary educations schools of Salamina, young people from the Association of Parents and Friends of People with special needs of Salamina, youth workers, students, teachers and municipal officials in order to discuss and get involved in the formulation of activities in matters of environmental protection.

The Mayor of SalaminaGiorgos Panagopoulos addressed the event and attended the event, while the Deputy Mayor of Education and Social Services Mrs. Panagiota Kaliotsou, the Mandated Municipal Councilor for the management of European Programs, Youth, Volunteering and Culture Mr. ThodorisZannis, who respectively addressed a greeting, the Deputy Mayor of Culture Mrs. Sofia Karnesi, the presidents of the primary education school committees Ms. Vaia Keramari and secondary education Mr. Dimitris Gikas, as well as municipal and community councilors.

More specifically, at this meeting the deliverables of the project were presented and the participants, through interactive games and the use of new technologies, had the opportunity to co-shape tools to promote environmental protection to other young people in Greece and Europe.

The tools presented in an interactive way and the use of non-formal learning tools, such as the Kahoot game and workshops are:

  1.  The dictionary on environmental crisis, sustainable development, climate policies and actions and environmental protection, “Envictionary”.
  2. The Manual – Training Guide for Workers in the Youth sector with interactive and innovative tools, based on non-formal learning, in the project’s themes. Topics such as green development, circular economy, sustainable development and green cities.
  3. The Online Courses – MOOC Courses for the environment.

Furthermore, the participants collaborated under the guidance and coordination of the Manager of this European Program, Mrs. Despina  Papadaki, in order to give their own ideas for the next tools that will be designed in the context of the project, and more specifically:

  1. Board Games and Comics using recyclable materials, with the aim of raising awareness, informing and motivating young people to get involved in actions, but also to take initiatives, for the protection of the environment and climate change, starting from their city.
  2. The design of the Environmental Application Game, (application for mobile devices), where the user will be able to scan a QR code and through it will be informed about basic issues, concepts, and elements related to climate change, the protection of environment, but also sustainable development.
  3. Ways in which young people of the island could take on the role of Environment Ambassador, with the aim, through social media and other actions, of becoming themselves communicators of the message of environmental protection to other young people of the island.

Municipality of Salamina, remaining consistent in the implementation of policies of extroversion for the youth and awareness of society for the environment, implements as a Coordinating body the European program “EUnvironment – EUnvironmental emergency in simple words” financed by Erasmus+ for Youth from the European Union through of the National Coordination Unit, INEDIVIM. It is a Strategic Partnership in the field of youth with a dynamic scheme of agencies from Greece, Cyprus, Portugal and Poland, with a total duration of 24 months.

The main objective of the project is to raise the awareness of young people on issues related to the environment, climate change and its effects on the local community, as well as policies for the protection of the environment and sustainable development, with the aim that the young people themselves act as communicants of these ideas but also to be able to “lead” society to a sustainable way of life.

By making use of innovative technological tools, the Municipality of Salamina aspires, together with the project partners, to raise awareness, inform and give incentives and tools to young people to become influencers themselves, taking initiatives to inform and sensitize other young people to the protection of the environment.With our slogan of everyone’s shared responsibility to protect and create conditions of well-being for Europe’s young people, we aspire to show that the planet is part of us and, therefore, it is everyone’s responsibility to protect it and be part of its preservation. A more sustainable way of life is the key message the program seeks to promote to young participants, as well as the values ​​of active citizenship, community involvement, solidarity and tolerance.

As the Project Results will be accessible by any interested party, the project aims to make its mark in education by enabling young people, youth workers and the education community to benefit and make use of the guides, online interactive courses , comics and games.

Through this program, as well as corresponding initiatives of the Municipality, the active participation of young people in society is strengthened and their extroversion is cultivated, as they come into contact with participants from other countries of the European Union.  The corporate structure of the project consists of the following entities:
